  • My son's high school counts anything he isn't paid for. He has worked in the day care I work at, volunteered at 2 elementary schools for family nights and culture fairs. He has also worked at a food bank/farm. He has to do a minimum of 15 hours a year for 4 years in order to graduate and his senior year he has to do a senior project or trip.

Is there a Habitat for Humanity in your area? They always need volunteers. Check with the elementary school. He could work with struggling students.

  • Many schools count work forchurches as community service. Would that be possible? Maybe groundskeeping, visiting shut-ins, something like that? If there's a nursing home, maybe your kid could read to residents there who are having trouble with their eyes.

  • Food bank? Even my tiny town in MN had a food bank so maybe yours does?

Ooo! How about the library? Reading to kids?

  • Homeless shelter
    Soup Kitchen
    Community Garden
    Tutoring

Any of those sound sort of doable?
