1 Bump

Calling all word smiths, and creative people :)

I posted this once already and guess I wasn't clear. Hubby and I are going to take the kids down to Great Wolf Lodge in March. It will be part of an extended weekend trip that involves a very large Taekwondo tournament.

As part of the kids' Christmas gifts I want to take the phrase: Have A Howling Good Time, cut it into puzzle pieces and hide them around the apartment. Using riddle-clues the kids have to find the phrase, put it together in the right order, and figure out where we're going.

Clue #1 would be on the tree and start them off.
Your journey's just begun.
To find your next clue we'll have some fun.
Go to the place where you'd find a pun.

The second clue and first puzzle piece would be on a bookshelf.

Can y'all help me create more riddles like that?

Thank you all for your great ideas! Here's what we came up with:

Let the tracking begin
Smile and with a big grin
Sniff out the next clue
Where you find a towel or two

Hurray! You’re an ace
You are very smart
Now find the place
Where we depart

Congratulations! Now give a roar!
To make this trail not a bore
Track your way along the floor
To the place where dad does snore

You're doing well, so far so good!
You're following your nose, as you should.
Let's keep going, stay on track!
For the next clue, go find a snack.

Well done! You’re doing great!
Some underwear and a sock and its mate
Look in the place where dried clothes wait
Just one clue more, you're almost there!

Where can it be? Where oh where?
Excitement's got you all in fits
Find your last clue where mom sits!

Good job you did it! You found all six
Sort these clues out of the mix
Get the right order and before you’re done
You’ll discover where we’ll be having fun

  • Thank you Anon, for the completely unnecessary comment. We've been before; my kids are 5 and 9, so not even close to being allowed to go anywhere without us; and your comment is not even close to helpful.

  • Please keep a close eye on your kids when you are there. Some creepy people frequent that place because of the kids. Have fun but just be aware.

  • Great clues already given. We did this once when I bought my husband the new Stetson he just knew we couldn't afford and another time when we bought our youngest an X box.

  • No worries wendy, I live in Seattle. right now we're in the 40's or so. Not a whole lot of snow that sticks, but every few years we'll get dumped on. Right now it's a cold rain falling.

  • Horray!
    You did it.You're very smart.
Now find the place where we depart.
(Hide it by the front door)

    Amazing, you are.
    A real shining star.
Look closely near the penny jar.
(Hide it in the kid's piggy bank)

    So close, so near.
    You're doing great!
Go to the place where dinner was ate.
(Hide in under the dining room table, or whevever you eat.)

    Just one more!
    Don't give up yet!
Where would you clean if you covered in sweat?
    (Hide it in the bathub)

My dad did these with me all through my childhood lol. I've started with my son but just one word clues for now. Can't wait to think these up in a few years! Start with good locations for clues. This website www.rhymezone.com lets you type in a word and will list a bunch of others that rhyme with it. Helps a lot!

  • I'm not asking this to be stalkerish, but where do you live? Are we talking 5 feet of snow on Christmas day, or shorts, or somewhere in between?

I have an idea forming, but I'm trying to get the phrasing write. Ridiculous - I can write a 50,000 word novel without thinking twice, but ask me to put together less than 20 and I'm a bumbling idiot. lol

  • 5 Clues

Entry way with closet, from there you can see the kitchen, living room/dining room combo. Then a hallway, 1st bathroom, laundry room/pantry, 3 bedrooms, and the master bath. There is also a small deck with a BBQ and the kids' bikes.

They should still have their wolf ears from when we went last time, and we've already snagged their wands from last time. There are a couple wolf pictures hanging on the walls.

  • Do you have hiding places in mind? If not, what's the general layout of your apartment (how many bedrooms, stuff like that), and what kind of furnishings do you have? Any wolf stuff in your place - stuffed, decorative, posters, pictures?
