I applied for food stamps about a month ago. But I'm married still even though we have been seperated for 8 years now. Would that hurt my chances getting them?

If he is not living in your home it doesn't matter if you are legally divorced or not. the only think they are worried about is the household income- including child support.

Depending on where your husband is and how much money he makes, you may have trouble getting food stamps for yourself and your daughter while you're still married. I hope you made it clear on the application that your husband never shares your household or your expenses, if that is true. Good luck.

If you have a child with him and don't receive child support they will make you get it before they determine FS eligibility. The married part doesn't really matter.

If you are married but separated and he lives in a different home than they will just look at your income/resources, and if you receieve any child support from your child's father this is income.

If you live with the child's father than his income counts cause you share a child in common. But if he is father of your child before you married your husband, than his income does not count.

If you are like some clients we have who are married and separated for years but living in separate area of the home, if that part of the home is attached to the house (basement is what most say they live in apart from their spouse) than the spouse's income/resources will count.
