"Fryer" chicken?

What is the difference between a whole chicken labelled "Fryer" as opposed to one that doesn't say that? Can I still roast a "fryer"?

  • Absolutely. Fryers are great for roasting, they're small, tender, and it's easy to get them fully cooked without drying out the breast.

  • Yep you can. The fryer distinction is more about size and age of the bird, not required cooking method.

  • Fryers are smaller and younger and more ideal for frying - quick cooking won't leave you with tough meat. Still good for roasting.
