Have you ever made hushpuppies? Do you have a good recipe? If so, please share.

I think I would like to try to make some but I haven't run across a recipe.

  • This is my grandpa'sz recipe. It has a kick to it

    2 cups cornmeal
    1 cup plain flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 cup parsley, finely chopped
    ground cayenne pepper
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 cup buttermilk
1 cup green onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons hot bacon drippings or oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (to taste)
    Oil for frying

Combine all dry ingredients. Add eggs, buttermilk, onion, and oil or bacon drippings. Mix well. Drop in deep hot fat by spoonsful and brown on all sides.

  • Well, I don't know the exact measurements, I usually eyeball everything except when baking. 2 cups Cornmeal, a tbsp or so of flour, diced onion (to taste), about a half a tbsp of sugar, half tbsp of mayo, an egg, and buttermilk or regular to desired thickness. A melon scooper or smaller ice cream scoop works wonders for getting that perfect shape and size. Fry at 350 for about 3-4 mins or until you have that nice golden brown. Also you can add corn or jalapeƱo peppers to it if you like.salt and pepper to taste also.
