Son grinding his teeth

My 16 month old grinds his teeth. Normal? If so, how do we get him to stop.

  • Most kids at that age will grind. You can see a dentist if you like but they probably won't do anything since they aren't his permanent teeth.

  • A dentist may want to fit him for a mouth guard to sleep in.

  • Has he recently gotten teeth in? If so, he's just doing the normal thing of wanting to play with them and explore. It is annoying to hear and a bit worrisome but there's not much reason to be concerned. It is normal.

  • No biggy, it will pass. This is normal, it feels good on their teeth and their discovering they have control over their mouth and can make this strange noise if they want to. Don't worry, it's not damaging long term, he'll get a new set ;)
