What is your personal interpretation of a Confederate flag?

(I'm not sure what category to put this in)

Meaning, do you have a belief, or is it just a flag to you?

  • I didn't grow up in the south so to me growing up  it just meant rebellion.  I know for others it has a much deeper and painful meaning.

  • Around here it only means one thing, hi neighbor, we belong to and support one or several of the white supremacist groups in the area.

  • To me it is just a flag. An out dated flag that represents nothing but a time period. I find it unfortunate that so many have take something that should have nothing but historic value and turned it into a a negative symbol of intolerance.

  • well Southern girl here and as I grew up it wwas just a flag that good old country girls and guys put in a truck window etc. never took the History meaning to heart!

NP I agree it can mean those horrid things but not to all of us southern folk :)

  • Them Duke boys sure were cute.

Seriously though, I grew up in MT. The confederate flag means nothing to me. After living in the south I have seen some people hold it as heritage and I am guessing that other's aren't so much invested in the heritage thing.

  • I think redneck. Racist. Bigger truck tire size than the number of teeth in their mouth.

  • I think there are so meanings to that flag. It's history, it's rebellion, it's slavery, it's rednecks. Personally, I view it more as history, but that's just me.
