Do you keep your kid home after this?

My son threw up 2-3 times. He since feels better and has been able to keep down crackers, soup, and apple sauce. Im keeping him home tomorrow. Would you keep your kid home even if they are feeling better?

  • yes, our schools policy is no throwing up for 24hrs... even if they just throw up a little from coughing too hard or something, any throwing up in 24hrs and they need to stay home

  • Yeah my son just had this. He started throwing up at about 10pm one night, threw up all night until 7am then was fine all day, until about 5 pm when he did it once more. He was fine after that and that night but we kept him the next day anyway.

  • I'd keep him home til he's been puke-free 24 hours.

  • Fever or upchucking stays home for 24 hrs after the last episode, or the fever breaks.

  • Our school policy is they have to be fever, diarrhea and vomiting free for 24 hours so we stick to that.

  • I have one that's prone to puking when nothing is really wrong... so if it was my DS, he held down his next meal and is fever free I'd send him. If it was my DD who never pukes I'd probably keep her home. It really depends on your child's PMHx and current signs & symptoms!!

  • Thank you all, my son is seasonally apt to catching tummy bugs. Last year he pulled something similar to today, a few pukes then fine. I'm pretty sure both his school and daycare both have a 24 hour policy. Not 100% though cuz were new in this town. Thanks again all for the reaffirmation.

  • Sure would. I'm debating keeping my DS home tomorrow and he's been puke free for over 24 hours now already - but still not feeling too hot.
