I know how to do cream cheese frosting using cream cheese and powdered sugar. What about regular frosting? Just use butter and if so how much? Salted or unsalted?Answer Question

In a standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix together sugar and butter. Mix on low speed until well blended and then increase speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.
Add vanilla and cream and continue to beat on medium speed for 1 minute more, adding more cream if needed for spreading consistency.

Here is the frosting I make
1 part Crisco shortening
2 parts powder sugar
1 drop of flavor (your choice)
1 egg white
Example... if you are making a single batch, use 1 cup Crisco to 2 cups powder sugar
I usually use vanilla as my flavor, but have used peppermint, coffee, and others...
Mix together add food coloring if you like.
It's wedding cake frosting, similar to what Wilton uses..
Will hold up to 2 weeks in sealed container in frig.
