How Many Mom's of 15 Mo. & Older have a little one who still hasn't said 1 word yet?

My cousin didn't say a word until 17 months and then only a couple until 23 months when he would not stop talking. Pedi's say not to worry anytime before 2.

My youngest will be 18 mos this month...she's said Dada a handful of times and MaMa maybe 3 times...she won't repeat things...but she likes to yell "EEEEEE-YA"; LOL

I have a feeling we will be sent for an evaluation at her next appt. She is one BUSY all-go, no-quit baby though...her sister wasn't climbing and exploring near as much as she is at this age; so I'm hoping that's all there is too it that's she's too busy doing other things...but really by now she should have some words...

IDK what else to do...makes me feel bad

Our 22 m/o mostly says sounds "Whee", "Yay", and has only started in the last 1-2 months saying a few words. Our speech therapist (of about 5 wks) says it is not uncommon for boys to wait until they are around 2 and then say alot at once, instead of adding one word at a time to their vocabulary, unlike girls who may or may not start talking sooner. If you are worried, talk to your doctor. All kids progress at their own timeline, I wouldn't be concerned at this point, (but I was concerned....so,.....I wouldn't be concerned knowing what I know now! LOL!) PS-As long as they are hitting other milestones, sitting, walking, playing with toys, turns to your voice, etc,....

I had one taking off with speech at 15 months, one who was just starting at 15 months and one who didn't speak until 22 months.

My daughters speech plateau-ed at 18 months. I took her to get evaluated for hearing and speech therapy. She was diagnosed with autism last month. I would reccomend finding out why the child is not progressing than waiting it out to see what will happen at 2.
