  • A place called Fuel Cafe. They are located in one of our city's old taxi depots, hence the name. They are all about eating locally and preparing as much local food as they can. I believe that they even have their own small farm. And the owners were in talks with a friend of ours to do a farm to plate series on lamb ( our friend owns a sheep ranch.)

  • We used to have an awesome restaurant here, converted from the old depot once the train stopped running. A little expensive, but there were historical pictures from our town's past, and electric trains chugging aroun the restaurant up high along the walls. It's always a shame when local places like that shut down, but Applebee's and Chili's and the rest put the squeeze on the mom and pop outfits.

  • I recently discovered a little place here (only 3 employees) that serves delicious food. They only have 4 dishes per day and use only local produce - one meat, one fish, one mega-salad, one vegetarian and 3 desserts but every day there's a new menu. They make their own crusty bread from scratch and bake it in a woodsmoke oven and 90% of the ingredients are organic. Besides that, there's a window across the kitchen wall so you can see what's going on :) And the prices are VERY reasonable - what more could you ask for?

    I'm hooked ...

  • My dad's cousin started a restaurant called Santiago's, which is now a local chain. My grandma taught my second cousin's mama to cook, so I love the place. It's the food I grew up on.
