Do you trust dollar store thermometers?

Was trying to take my baby's temp, and it went to 98.4 and stayed there?

  • I do a "Mommy Thermometer" hand test too. Then I use the thermometer. We have a dollar store one that's years old and still works. When in doubt, try it on yourself first.

  • yes
What, you don't believe the temp was 98.4? 98.6 is text book "normal"
I run at 97.6,so 98.6 is a fever for me
    Kids are cooler

  • Place one hand on your head and one on her head. Is she warmer than you?

  • I did wonder, she has not been feeling well, acting like she wants to nurse but not nursing. I couldn't get the battery out to replace it in this thermometer, so am hoping it is accurate.

  • Yes her head feels a little bit warmer than mine. Maybe she is teething. Her ears don't feel extra warm, but they don't always. She is happy right now, just had a burst of crying about an hour ago trying to nurse...

here's a bump for other opinions

to answer the original question, I do the hand test ^^ above before I do a thermometer and then the thermometer to tell the doc how high. so...take from that what you will.
