What's going on here?

I was cleaning my boyfriends stuff out, and I came across some papers. It was his tax return from 2010. (Before I met him). When I scanned through it, I seem his ex wife's name on it. He put her down as a dependent, and that was was his sister. He had her social on there also. They haven't been together since 09 I believe. Because in 10, she was pregnant with another man...

He told me she was a dancer, so she didn't get tax back, supposedly.
I haven't mentioned it to him that I've seen these papers... I'm not sure if its a big deal or not. She could have let him claim her, OR, he's claiming her without her knowledge. Which is a really mean thing to do. I'm leaning towards the second one... Why would she let a man she's not with anymore claim her, rather than the father of her child?

Can someone give me some ideas whats going on here?
Cause I might have to becareful with my information!

  • Are these the taxes filed in 2010 FOR the year of 2009? That would make sense then if they were together in 2009.

  • These papers have two dates on them.
The other date is year 2011...
Assuming, he filed in 2010 for 2011??

  • Report him. It is tax fraud, either way.

  • If they were still married then it is legal. I should read all the answers before answering sometimes. Sorry.

  • Okay.
Thank you ladies. Had to make sure I wasn't dating someone who was committing a serious crime. If it was legal, then why would he put her down as his sister?
