Washing machine gave up the ghost

SD crammed four loads worth in and killed it! After I got over my shock and horror, I googled it and I think I've found the problem part and bought a replacement. I watched a video on how to replace it and I am ready to give it a try. It's a $12 part, and the washer is 15+ years old, so I figure why not?

My question:
Would you attempt this? Call a pro? Or just get a new washer?

  • $12 part? I would at least try it. All else fails I would get a new one.

  • We have fixed many a washer and dry and from a booklet or instructions from the guy at the store. They even let us call them and ask when we got stuck. Go for it. Really all you have to lose is $12,00 and some time.

  • We just purchased a new set after a long 12 yrs with our old ones. Combined I have replaced belts, elements, a transmission, the list goes on and on... If you haven't done any work otherwise then fix it, but if you're just throwing more money into it, then move on.
