Be sure that you get all you laundry done before New Year's Day

Do not do, or have laundry to do on new years day as it is very bad luck.

Be sure to eat black eyed peas on new year's day for prosperity.

Any other traditions or superstitions?

  • Oh I never heard of this, good to know. We always do pork and sauerkraut in the crock pot. It's a PA Dutch superstition passed down through generations.

  • I've always heard that eating cabbage on New's Years day is for good luck. So, we eat it every year. I think we do it more now out of habit then actually believeing the myth.

  • I have heard that if you eat pork & cabbage you will have good luck (or you won't have bad luck). I can't remember if you are supposed to eat it last thing NYE or first thing NYD. I'm not so good with the tradition things. We don't have too many as a family.....

That is good to know about the laundry thing. Maybe that has been my problem for the last 20 years or so..... Guess I know what I get to do all day now. Does it all have to be folded and put away, or does it work if it is only washed & dried? This is important, can someone please answer this burning question? If it must be folded and all, someone may not get dinner! LOL
