grunting during breastfeeding

my 2 week old daughter is like grunting during feeding, but its not from swallowing it sounds like she's crying almost, but keeps eating. does anyone know what this is? i went to a breastfeeding support group at the hospital and they thought it could be that my milk is flowing either too slow or too fast for her. has anyone else had this problem with their new born?

  • Hehe, my daughter did it when she was super hungry, like grunt grunt swallow, etc.

    Sounds normal to me!

  • It could be nothing. When you were at the breastfeeding clinic did you feed her so they could hear the noise she makes? That may ease your mind for someone else to hear it the way you are.
My DD often makes these gurgling noises when she's eating. She will moan and groan when feeding too. On the funny side last night she pulled away from me and gurgled a mouth full of milk! lol She's 10 months now.

  • It could be from overactive letdown. Plenty of info on the subject at kellymom.com.

It could also merely be what your baby does. If baby isn't gulping and choking on the letdown, then the noise isn't anything to really worry about...unless it drives you bananas.
