Maybe a dumb question about a GPS...

When you buy a Tomtom, do you have to pay a monthly fee to use it or is it useable for free? I am thinking of investing in one, but probably not if it costs a monthly fee. I've started looking into it, but I haven't seen anywhere that says anything about monthly prices, yet.

  • Nope we have a tom tom and never pay any sort of fee. You have to pay for maps. So say the package says it has USA maps and you want Canada and Mexico maps you will have to pay for those. Our Tom Tom has USA Canada and Europe. We were stationed overseas and needed it.

  • I recommend Garmin. They have lifetime map updates. Back in the day it cost like $70 a year to update the map, so if the place you were looking for was new-ish it wouldn't come up in the search.
