Meatballs in the crockpot?

I want to make beef meatballs tonight, if I shaped them then throw them in the crockpot to cook will they fall apart? Should i brown them first?

  • You don't have to brown them if you don't want to,just put then in with sauce and let them cook away. I've done it, they come out good!

  • If your recipe usually holds together well, they should be fine - I wouldn't layer too many though. They might kind of stick together but should come apart fairly easily. I had the same concern when I did it but mine came out fine!

  • I was thinking of cooking them in beef broth, would that work? The only other things I have are turkey gravy & BBQ sauce

  • Personally I would brown them first and then cook them in BBQ sauce, but that depends on what you are using them for. If you are makng a lot of meatballs for different recipes then I would use beef broth, but if it's strictly for meatball subs I would cook them in marinara etc.
