Does this sound like the flu?

onset of outrageously runny nose then sore throat for a day. Then two days of fever at 101.6, chills, weakness and need to sleep for at least two more days. Maybe just a bad virus?

  • Whether that's the actual flu or not, it sounds exactly like the plague that's been going around the past month or so around the world. Restrict your contact with other people, stock up on DayQuil and NyQuil, and find some bland tv you won't mind sleeping through.

  • Colds don't typically have a fever with them (although a really low grade fever can occur in some folks)

I'll agree with NP; there is some sort of plague going on right now that sounds much like what you have. We've found that about half of those coming in with your symptoms test positive for flu, but the rest do not. Also, if you had a flu shot, you're not immune from this crap. I had the flu shot and was pretty ill all last week.

That said, treat it like you would any other virus. Lots of fluids, rest, Tylenol at night for the know the drill. The cough tends to hang on for a while, as well.
