Any thoughts on the Trillion dollar coin?

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/10/business/a-trillion-dollar-coin-brings-a-jackpot-of-jests.html?_r=0

Is this a viable option in your opinion?

If so, why not mint 20 and call it a day?

  • I am not sure what the consequences are, but I am sure they are not good for our economy. I know you can't just print money when ever you want it. What would be the point of paying taxes, let the government just print the money they need. There is a reason why they don't do that, what that reason is I am not entirely sure of.

  • So, no concern over what that does to the value of our money, inflation or any other consequences of just creating some kind of money from thin air?

Anyone have an idea of what some of the 'unintended consequences' could be if this was done?

*to be clear, I am not convinced that this will happen, just posted this for the political conversation since it was in the news.

  • I think if it was a real viable answer it would have been done already. Wouldn't it decrease the value of the dollar more?

  • It's a joke. What worries me is that people are taking it seriously.

  • It would be nice to have, but where could you get change?

  • Oh why not! Let's just go ahead and kill the dollar for once and for all.

  • Can I have one? Oh wait that might not be a good idea. My 4 year old might decide she needs a drink and use it in a pop machine.
