I need to know of any one has tried any of these cake tricks... :0/

The first one is to make a box cake taste like a bakery cake:
Step 1: Look at the directions on the cake mix, Step 2: Add one more egg (or add 2 if you want it to be very rich), Step 3: Use melted butter instead of oil and double the amount, Step 4: Instead of water, use milk. Step 5: Mix well and bake for the time recommended on the box.

The second is to wrap a wet towel around the outside of the pan to force it to bake with a flat top.
ie. allowing the middle to cook before the sides.

  • Extra egg, yes. Butter instead of oil yes, but not double - that's too much. Milk no, but I have done 1 cup sour cream + 1/2 cup water. If you'd do all of those though, it's going to be TOO dense, and if you're layering, it's more likely to not stack well. I've had dense cakes crack down the middle. Keep it light to stack layers. Towel no - I lower the temp and then trim the top.
