What would be a good pet for a four year old boy?

My son will be 3 next month, but I would like to give him a nice pet when he turns 4.

  • Fish. 4 year olds suck at caring for pets, you will end up doing it all. It'll be fun for a week then it will be boring just like everything else lol

  • A 4 year old can't really take cre of a pet, so get a pet that you will be ok taking care of. It will be a great begining to teaching them responsibility, but on't expect him to remember to feed said pet twice a day.

  • A betta fish and a snail in a small aquarium. Bettas are pretty, easy to care for and nearly invincible. They can go for a few days without eating, they are not terribly picky about water levels or temps and they don't get along with other fish so you can only have one. No- 'can I get him a friends?' lol. We clean out 5 gallon tank every 4 months with the snail helping to keep it clean. The snails are harder to keep alive but the are super cheap.

  • Nothing. 4 year olds are not capable of properly caring for a pet. What ever pet you get would be YOUR pet. I say whatever you do.  Do not get a dog. They are a lot of responsibility and not something you can just buy for your 4 year old to play with. If you are not prepared to take on the responsibility of a pet then do not buy one
