Speaking of cake.

Do you like fondant on your cake? I had it for the first time last weekend. And while it makes cake look nice it didn't taste that great to me.

  • I prefer the real butter cream frosting (no whip cream imitation frosting) to fondant, but fondant can look amazing.

  • There are different kinds of fondant. Store-bought is horrible stuff - it's not for eating (it is edible but nasty). I've made marshmallow fondant - tastes awesome!

  • Idareyou, it was from a bakery and it's was idk how to explain it. But it wasn't soft and didn't have much flavor. I prefer real butter cream too. Maybe it was just made bad?

  • I'm not a big fan of icing, to begin with, but I HATE fondant. It's NASTY.

  • Fondant is more for looks than for eating, obvoiously. I have made the marshmallow fondant and while it has a better flavor it is still cloyingly sweet and chewy...not palatable for cake by most people's standards. People pay alot for it, decorators spend alot of time working with it and IMO it is all for nothing. I like cakes that look edible...very delicously edible. Buttercream is superior IMO.
