When your Autistic child is on a two hour delay...

it really messes up the routine. My kid is screaming and throwing a fit and crying. I have rocked her, played games, read to her, put a movie on. I am just out of options. How are some ways other moms of autistic children deal with the delay, or any change in routine for that matter?
My daughter is seven btw.

  • drive the very long way to school
i make a "dora" map, waste gas by driving the alleys
alleys because- constant speed - slow and steady
but this does not eat up 2 hours

  • I used to use a picture schedule with my son. It was way more work but I had activities to fill up the morning and then after the last picture/activity it was time to go. If possible, I prepared him the night before!

  • I always would talk about the possibility the night before. Then I would use the picture schedule in order to help him understand what the schedule will be that day.

  • That's an idea. Thank you, maybe I can drive her around town to look at things, stop at McDonalds and things like that. Thanks again! :)
