Jewish ladies, help me out. Is there something going on today?

Is this some sort of Jewish holiday or something when you're not allowed to touch money?

  • The work was done earlier in the week, and he said he didn't have the money to pay

And there is the crux of the issue. I think he is using his religion as an excuse

  • Technically the Sabbath doesn't begin until sunset on Friday and lasts until sunset on Saturday.

  • The work was done earlier in the week, and he said he didn't have the money to pay, come back. Now today, he can't touch money.

  • Did the contractor work today? I think it's funny if you can have someone work for you on a Friday/Saturday but not be able to pay them. If that's the case why not just have them come monday-Thursday so you can pay someone when they are done?

  • Yeah, the *work* is already done, and should be paid. I am so sick of people trying to weasel out of paying for work they had done.

  • Well taking care of financial obligations can be seen as "work" depending on how religiously strict they are but it sounds to me like they may simply be using their religion to make an excuse as to why they aren't paying. They'll likely give you the same excuse tomorrow since Shabbat does not end until nightfall on Saturday. I'd be at their door on Sunday

  • Of course the "strictness" of the practice varies among individuals

  • I didn't think that was a holiday thing but every friday as it is the beginning of Shabbat and is their day of rest so they don't do any "work" and that could include shopping or handling money
