Do you let the dish washer dry the dishes?

My husband says that is what really disinfects them... however, a long time ago, someone told me to open the door before the drying cycle to conserve energy.... what do you do?

  • I use the dry cycle because a doctor once told me, years ago, that this was the best way to kill germs on dishes. I'm not sure it's accurate but I still do it to this day, when I'm lucky enough to have a dishwasher

  • I do in the winter sometimes, but in the summer it just creates too much heat. I think the sanitizing factor is negligible, though. Those dishes are hot, hot, hot even before the dry cycle!

  • I wash them by hand and let them air dry in the broken dishwasher

  • Since we run it overnight, the "air dry" setting works just fine.

  • I let the dishwasher do everything now if the thing would put them away I would be even happier.

  • We open it up and air dry. We try to time it so the dishwasher finishes up just as DH comes out to get his morning coffee and heads to work.

  • I conserve energy. Even on that setting it still does a pretty good job of drying them.
