19 month old health problems - pls help

HI. I have a 19 month old girl. From 5 months she dropped in weight and as from 9 months we have been going to hospital for tests. She went through a fecal occult blood test several times and always had a positive result. She had a endoscopy and colonoscopy and result was she had an ulcer which was removed but was nothing and bleeding could not been coming from the ulcer. She then went through a Meckels scan and results were normal as well. Now we just had result of fecal occult blood test again. This time 1 sample marked negative while another 2 marked negative. Moreover, as from 9 months we stopped giving her normal milk and she is now having hypo allergenic milk and soya and she has gained weight from when we stopped giving her normal milk. Her mother is lactose intolerant. Now her doctor wants to do CT scan and we are afraid of effects of radiation. What could be the matter?

  • If you are concerned about the CT scan then you need to talk to the Doctor about your concerns and ask them to explain to you the risk vs. the value. They may be able to do other testing and wait to do the CT scan but it may come down to that is what they need to do to get a full picture of what is going on. In that case the benefit would outweigh the risk. You just need to keep an open dialog with the doctors. If they don't know your concerns- they can't help you.

  • Our doctor told us since all the results were ok the last resort is to do a CT scan but he is also aware of the risks which he briefly explained to us. I searched onlnie and i found that radiation from CTscan could increase the risk of cancer especially in children and i do not want to solve one problem and cause another bigger one which for sure would be more life threatening. I really do not know what to do. She is still so young and has already passed throguh several tests which have left her traumatized. She is healthy and is now gaining weight rapidly and does not stop jumping. The only problem is that hidden blood is still found in her stool!!! We are going to do another test this week and we are going to avoid giving her gluten this time to see whether this effefct the results! This situatiuon has been going on from when she was 5 molnths old and we are really concerned. She already took radiation to do the meckel'scan
