My son is 13 months old. Since his birth, we are using rear facing carseat. What is the right time to switch to front facing carseat?

  • When the child reaches the maximum weight for your carseat to be rear-facing.

  • Ask the doctor, or check car seat laws for your state. When my kids were that age, the recommendation was 12 months AND 20 pounds. I think I've heard now that they're trying to push keeping kids rear facing until at least 2 years old, longer if possible. I don't know about yours, but my kids HATED being rear facing. They got turned around on their first birthday and were the happiest babies in the car.

  • I turned mine too early because I didn't know any better back then.  HERE is a good link.

  • a year for my DD and 7 months for my DS, my DS outgrew the limit when he was 7 months old for the rear facing

  • If you are still using the same seat, my guess is he is too heavy for it by now. I turned mine at about 10 months. Weight is much more important than age as far as carseats are concerned.

  • I rear faced til 2 1/2

AAP has revised rear facing standards from 1 year to 2 years.

    Research it heavily.
