  • It doesn't matter when the last IEP was. You can call an IEP meeting at ANY time. do it now!!!

  • Is he not in speech therapy or any other therapy? Flash cards won't help if the root cause of his delay isn't identified and dealt with

  • Does he have an IEP?

If not, get one and put his speech issues in it.. Then they can not retain him in his inability to say these sounds.

  • If he has a speech delay, then he should be getting speech therapy. No amount of working with him will help if he's not getting the right help to eliminate the cause of the delay. If he hasn't been officially diagnosed with the delay, then that's your first step. If he has been diagnosed, and they are just ignoring his need for therapy, then you step in and start demanding that they do what needs to be done.

What Ms. Prissy said is correct. Tell the school you want him evaluated for speech services. You need to tell them in writing. (email is sufficient). The MUST do it. They might tell you they don't think it is needed, but if you request an eval, they must do it.

  • If he has an iep and is in speech therapy, they can't hold him back for that. Does the speech therapist give you things to do at home with him? When my youngest was in speech therapy, he would bring home small assignments to work on until his next time. It was stuff that took just a few minutes to do, but was hugely beneficial to him.

  • You can get him speech therapy after school at a private practice. You can call an IEP meeting at any time to discuss your concerns whether its due or not.
