What should I do?

I left for Baltimore early Monday morning and I found out my neighbor's son was killed in a car accident he was 21. We sent a fruit basket to the house. There are tons of people there today. I know they are Muslim and I wanted to stop by but would that be intruding? Should I wait? My son plowed there driveway early this morning. I feel so bad but do not want to intrude.

  • Oh my gosh! That's awful! I'm sorry. :(
Wait until it calms down a bit, then go over with your condolences.

  • Knowing them, they are probably expecting you. It's customary to visit no matter what faith. You may not be close with them, but they know you and your son...just bring flowers

  • depend show close you are to them
if very close- early stop by fine
if not that close- wait a bit
fruit basket and help with plowing- very nice
might want to ask neighbors if there is a sign up for food to bring
might be overloaded on casseroles/dinners at the start

  • I would wait till there aren't quite so bombarded.

  • I was numb when my dad died and heard people visited but I was in too much shock to remember it. Personally, I'd wait. You sent the fruit basket and did the driveway. Now let things settle down. Then go visit

  • How heartbreaking!

I guess I'd probably wait a bit till it calms down over there, then visit. Also, maybe drop in with a gift certificate to a nearby grocery store so the family can fill in with the food that is needed, based on what has already been brought. Fresh fruit was a good idea.

  • That's terrible. I would wait a couple of days and then pay them a visit. Maybe put your contact info in a card and let them know that if there is anything they might need to not hesitate to call you.
