Can a rats tail be pulled off

Ok we found a rat in our house and we finally got it cornered a d I had him pinned down by his tail and I swear and inch of fur and a white slimy cord about 6 inches long disconnected from his body and he went running again.

  • It's called "degloving". Happens when you grab a rat by the tail. Protects them from predators, so they can get away.

  • Many birds do that same thing when a predator, or something perceived as a predator, grabs them by the tail feathers.
