    Usuallu they do not until the need a bigger shell to move into, which is fascinating if you can catch the shy buggers doing it. lol
    If there is any commotion including changes of lighting and movement around threir enclosure they will stay inside. You have to sit down and wait for them to show any part of them.
    I am not sure if this is what you are asking.
