Mashed cauliflower

I have a bunch I need to use so I was thinking I'd try mashing it like mashed potatoes. Have you ever tried it? Is it good? There are so many recipes for it, I can't decide which to try.

  • Yes I like it very much and I wish I had some today to make it. HMMM.
Be sure you thoroughly drain the cawliflower and even pat a little of the water off or the mashed cawliflower will be watery. Other than that it is pretty much the same process. I use my immersible blender to mash them and get them nice and smooth. Funny I like my mashed potatoes slightly lumpy so they are smashed rather that mashed lol.

  • I've tried it. It tastes like mashed cauliflower and it's mealy and dry unlike mashed potatoes. I don't know what restaurants do to make it taste good. Maybe they add cream.

  • We use cauliflower in our mashed potatoes. I boil cut cauliflower with the cut potatoes ( about 50/50 ). And make them as usual. I have had mashed cauliflower alone but Ia m not a fan of the texture...

Have you tried roasted cauliflower? it is to die for!

I also have a recipe somewhere for a Cheesy cauliflower chili.

  • I wanted to add that my kids had no idea I added the cauliflower the first time. I was not hiding it I just never brought it up until we were eating dinner and I asked what they thought.

  • I liked it. Cauliflower is mostly water so if you do try it, you do not need to add much of anything... just mash.
