Religious Debate Minor
I could see doing without most of the electronic distractions for the sake of "clearing the air". For spiritual reasons, or as a ritual, I wouldn't, simply because I balk at the idea of doing something for supernatural purposes. That seems as distracting as the media itself. In other words, I can imagine turning off the TV, the radio, staying off the computer for a period of time, just to be able to listen to the real world around me, and to feel a connection with it that is sometimes lost with the distractions of media noise. But to do it hoping for some literally magical transformation, or hoping that some deity would use that silence to connect with me . . . seems silly, considering my world view. Of course, like others here, I couldn't not speak. My older daughter might understand, but my younger one with autism would not be able to deal with it.
