Are kids still being taught cursive?

  • I just asked this question a couple weeks ago!. The general consensus was YES and the most agreed reasoning was so kids can learn how to sign their name lol. I don't even use cursive to sign my name. I scribble. I learned that well before I learned cursive!

  • Our school district does not teach it. My kids go to a classical education charter school and they do teach it.

  • They did at the private school DS went to for PreK. He started learning it there. He can sign his name now. I don't know if they do in the public school here or not.

  • They touched on it when they were younger but I can't say they were taught it. They focused on keyboarding classes instead in early elementary school, about third grade I think. Sign of the times.

  • My oldest son was taught cursive last year when he was in fifth grade. I wish they would teach typing.

  • They teach that damn D'Nealian writing style now. I hate hate hate it. Books are not written in it therefore it confuses kids. I think it's a way to combined cursive and writing. She knew all her letters, but had to relearn them in kindergarten.

  • no. They don't even teach proper penmanship anymore. The kid's writing is atrocious and their spelling as well!
