Requesting a IEP

so i posted on friday when i received the report cards that my youngest was at risk of retention.. he has a speech delay ........ so i went in to the office today and talked to administration about requesting an IEP and i was told that it has to be in writting..

sooo i'm wondering what exactly has to be in the letter do i just say

"i am requesting an iep" or do i actually have to go into detail about why i want it?

  • try to find local agency that helps with IEPs, they can be very daunting
    try google to find

    IEP is a legal thing and school can take it make hard on parents
    once you request- they have to go by law

    you can get booklet on the rights of parents and students concerning public school and laws of IEP which has to abide by

  • You write: I am formally requesting my child be evaluated by the school pychologist with comprehensive standard assessment tools. Put date and time. Make a copy. Have the school official sign they received their copy. An I.E.P. may not be put into place unless the pyschological evaluation provides information indicating one is necessary.

  • You may also want to request a speech evaluation. If your son has a speech delay, then he should already be receiving services and should already have an IEP. The school may not be aware of his delay.

  • Explain any thing you or the teacher seem to be worried about. Let them know about his speech delay and then say because of this you would like to have an IEP done. at the earliest time
