Can anyone explain this?

"Women who take estrogen replacement only (not with progesterone) for 5 years or more seem to have a higher risk of ovarian cancer. Birth control pills, however, decrease the risk of ovarian cancer."

I thought birth control was all estrogen.

Thanks

  • I thought birth control pills were either a combination of estrogen and progestin or mini pills with progestin only.

  • JJK is right. Most birth control pills have estrogen and progesterone, but some that are less effective and more easily tolerated have only progesterone. The HRT might have more estrgen than the birth control pills.
