Have you ever gone through a foreclosure, deed in lieu, or short sale?

How did it turn out? How has it impacted your family, your credit, etc?

  • I haven't but a friend of mine did. At first it was tearing the family apart with the blame game but thankfully they finally sat down and talked and realized it was actually thru no fault of their own. DH had lost his job and they just didn't make enough money to cover everything. She thought their credit was shot but 4 months after moving into an apartment they got a cc offer and thinking they'd never get approved she sent it in. 4 weeks later they got it approved. Of course it had a 23% interest rate and a $500 limit. They took it and charged one tank of gas on it every month (paid in full monthly!) which helped to build their credit back up.

  • Thank you baconbits for answering. Do you know if it was a foreclosure or one of the other two? Did they have a difficult time getting an apartment? My family may be facing a similar situation due to our house having so many repairs that we are incapable of making. We know we will take a severe hit credit-wise, but we just need to start over and be smarter going forward.
