How to comfort SIL who really wanted to nurse but has IGT?

Insufficient glandular tissue has made it so she makes little to no milk. Her Mom is finally trying to be nice but after growing up with the expectation of this is what we do in our family it rips you up a bit(speaking from experience).

Any like real suggestions for how to cheer her up other then anecdotes in a world where even the formula cans have to tell you your short changing your kid?

  • Maybe she can find a milk bank where women have graciously donated their liquid gold for a child without the mom's own milk option

  • Remind her that nursing is only the beginning. She has a beautiful, healthy baby and there will be all kinds of chances for bonding and wonderful memories.

  • It's hard, I had the same problem. I don't think there's anything you can say. She'll comes to terms with this. There are great alternatives like formula and milk banks. It's not what she wanted but thank goodness we live in a time when there are alternatives.
