  • Yes, it is now. Five years ago, roughly, it was still pretty forbidden but times have changed

  • Depends on the person. I think a hand-written card might have more value than a e-mail that can be deleted with a click and forgotten.

  • many jobs are now 'apply online' or email resume to: type jobs. If this was the case then do email a thank you. Many employers want to know that you are computer savy.

  • Yes. That is the only way I think you should do it. No one wants to be bothered with a phone call, and if you write a letter you will be seen as very out of date.

  • I think it would depend on the age of the interviewer and the type of position you are interviewing for. For office type jobs a quick thank you note is more appropriate because it shows you have business curtsey, but for retail or a web design an email would be more appropriate. If in doubt you could always do both.
