Do you buy your kids something special if they have been sick or been through something traumatic?

Because of my son's new health problem,I allowed him to pick out something. He chose a scale model metro city bus.

  • Yes, but my daughter is usually happy with a package of stickers or some dollar store treasure she gets to pick out.

  • After what your little man has been thru, I'd buy him the bus, the taxi, the garbage truck, the police car..... lol :p Yes, they deserve a little something to help them feel better & take their minds off what they've been thru. Besides, watching them be happy, makes us feel better too! Glad he's on the mend. :)

  • Yes I do. Last Tuesday my daughter, my son and I saw my daughter's best friend get hit buy a car as I was taking all 3 kids to school. My daughter's been having nightmares every night since then. The other day she walked out of class in tears because no one would play with her. I took her to Red Robin for lunch and we had a Mommy/Daughter afternoon.

Saturday I also finally took her to get her hair cut. It's super cute and she's been getting a lot of attention because of it.

  • We've never been through anything really traumatic yet, so I can't say. I hope I don't have to find out though!

  • When I forgot it was early dismissal last Wednesday, I took my DD to get an Icee. Does that count?

  • Yes. My Son was doing so great in school (kindergarten) & being helpful at home these past few weeks that I brought him to Toys R Us for a Toy on Friday night. He got the Angry Birds Space game.

  • Usually not but, my children don't normally go through anything "traumatic". I just try to cuddle them more & do things with them that they want to do if it seems like they need more from me or need reassurance.

  • I do too. Like a "get well" or "cheer up" present.

  • I bought my son a smoothie after he had a tooth drilled. That's the most traumatic thing I can think of that he's been through, but yes I can see wanting to make a kid happy after going through some tough stuff.
