  • Some babies just take off a bit more slowly than others. He sounds perfectly normal to me, so I wouldn't worry about him.

  • It's probably nothing, but its good to be tested. My kids never gained weight the way other kids did. Even now every time I take them for a well visit my doctor wants me to put them on high calorie protein shake and bring them back to be weighed because they are always off their growth curve. They're 13 now.

Has the doctor indicated at all what he's testing for or what conditions he's trying to rule out?

  • My baby was like that, very slow to gain weight. She was ten pounds at five months old, and the WIC nurses were freaking out all over the place. But she ended up fine, just tall and thin for her age. She'll be five tomorrow. The doctor may be testing for a thyroid issue, but don't be surprised if there's nothing wrong with your grandson at all.

  • Born at five pounds, three pounds gained in four months... only a little behind. Pound a month is what's expected. I suspect the feeding schedule is the issue... feed on demand. Smaller bottles more often. Try two ounces every two hours.

  • thanks all.. took him to his doctor... admitted to hospital and he has acid reflux which cause him to bring up his milk or he swallow it and constantly pees it out (milk go straight thru him). This caused him to loose weight 4 thms and 8 pounds he weighed 6 pounds when born. They gave him med and we have a health care nurse coming to the house to weigh him know he weighs 9 pounds eating good. Thanks
