3 Bumps

A $900,000 budget for travel and meals, a $500,000 housing allowance and $500,000 for jet fuel and other expenditures

One of the megachurches here is in foreclosure.  While not paying their $100k/mo mortgage, they continued to withdraw the expenses above, included in their nearly $4 million/yr salary for the "leadership compensation", 3 of the 4 million going to the husband and wife pastor team.

This was all financed by direct tithing, faith-based businesses (the same type that are demanding birth control exemptions for being faith-based), and "charitable" donations.

Which part of this was charity?  Where is the faith-based aspect?  What portion of this operation is doing a higher work that trancends the need to be regulated or taxed?  How many congregations that people will now stand up screaming "but that's not MY church/denomination/pastor" and "that's not where MY donations go" do the same thing, just on a smaller scale, so it's not as noticeable?

(and fyi, if that's not YOUR church or YOUR denomination or YOUR whatever, who cares, and why do you feel the need to share that?)

  • Think about Tammy and jim Baker they stole from across the board stealing from people who give you more trust then you deserve is easy only these people did it in the name of god.

  • God gives some people a right to steal or so they think if the truth be told the only true crime here was the trust they received did not get returned. This could be any faith or any people they just chose religious people.

  • Whoops wrong Mega church.

LOL. They have a "branch" by our house now - they took over the building another congregation was leaving. Was in there a few months ago - they've totally gutted the building to make it look more like a megachurch. 100+ years of history down the drain.

  • I don't understand why people would support a church like this. The people must know they are funding all of this? Why do they need so much money? Appalling.

  • churches are more like companies and just as prone to embezzlement and other deceptive practices... which is why I don't give to churches anymore. I'll give and help directly and want to know where my help is going. It's not just churches though, it's charities as well.

  • I *HATE* seeing churches like that. It makes no sense to me AT ALL why any of that stuff is necessary.
