what to do when stump falls off??!!

sobaby is ten days old and stump fell off last night.. they dont tell you what to do after it falls off. its still a little oozy but hubby doesnt think infected... are we still supoose to use alcohol wipes?? will the ried blood end up in her skin if i dont clean it? i really dont want to hurt her or casue infection... thank you

  • Keep swabbing it every once in awhile to keep infection away while it finishes healing. The dried blood should be wiped away.

  • Still wipe till it stop draining after that just keep it real clean.

  • Wipe with alcohol wipes at each diaper change. Wait until it is completely dried up to give a real baby bath.

  • also, q-tips with rubbing alcohol work really well to clean (I didn't like the pads)

  • Using alcohol too often can dry out baby's skin. I was instructed to wipe the belly button area with a warm wet rag at every diaper change (while the stump was still on), and to use alcohol every day or every other day. Once the stump fell off, I continued to wipe with a warm rag whenever I saw crusted blood around the belly button.

  • Occasional wiping with alcohol is fine-it will dry out. Congrats!
