Do you know what "debate" means?

Do you know how it differs from "bashing"? Just curios since it seems there is always someone who can't differentiate.

To start off, here is what debating actually means:

"a discussion, as of a public question in an assembly, involving opposing viewpoints: a debate in the Senate on farm price supports. 2. a formal contest in which the affirmative and negative sides of a proposition are advocated by opposing speakers."

Note the mention of "negative sides" of an argument. This does not equate to bashign or attacking or my favorite, persecution of one and their beliefs.

So, does that help clear it up? :)

  • How about this, two people with feet set in cement discussing a subject and hoping to change someones mind on an issue.

There are 36 non-debate sections of Answers. Unless someone is holding a gun to your head (in which case, give us a sign and we'll call the police) nobody is required to participate here.

  • Awww... I thought debate meant that I get to be a total asshat to people, and then when they call me out for my asshatedness I get to stomp my feet and cry like a big fat whiny baby.
