Do you know how it differs from "bashing"? Just curios since it seems there is always someone who can't differentiate.
To start off, here is what debating actually means:
"a discussion, as of a public question in an assembly, involving opposing viewpoints: a debate in the Senate on farm price supports. 2. a formal contest in which the affirmative and negative sides of a proposition are advocated by opposing speakers."
Note the mention of "negative sides" of an argument. This does not equate to bashign or attacking or my favorite, persecution of one and their beliefs.
