  • Knowing what grows well in the soil type & weather in your area. And deciding where in your yard will get the best sunlight.

  • Do it according to what kind of lighting they need. Put shade loving plants in shady areas, sun loving plans in sunny areas, etc.

  • We are all about vegetables and growing as much of our own as possible. We look at what grows in our climate and also look at companion planting. We always grow tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers (mostly hot), cukes, asparagus, lettuce, beets, and a variety of squash. This year I am also going to fill in blank spots in my flower beds with veggies.

  • I planted roses. Because they are pretty easy to take care of. And they come back each year.

  • I used to grw a lot of veggies. I had plenty of room, so I just planted the one I liked andhad good luck with. Summer and winter squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, rhubarb. Now I only grow flowers because I don't have space or sunlight for veggies on my porch.

  • Start with a trip to your local nursery. Have a good look round. What they're selling is what grows well in your area. THEN decide what youi want to plant and where (according to light, weather, etc.).
