Ouch!!! My back! What happened??

I was leaning over the baby and when I picked her up a sharp pain shot in my back and I couldn't move or put weight on one leg.

The pain is radiating into my buttcheek.

  • Sounds like your sciatic nerve.. The pain will go away, until it comes back again! It's a bitch, happens to me too.

  • Ouch! That happened to a friend of mine, and it was her sciatic nerve. She went to a doctor, who said there really wasn't much she could do but wait for the pain to subside on its own. Great news, eh?

  • I think when you bent over you pinched your lower back muscle!

  • Sciatica is more involved. You probably just strained something if you didn't bend your knees. I'd take some ibuprofen and put ice on it tonight then switch to heat tomorrow. Let the muscle heal for a day or so then do some gentle stretches if it's tight. If all else fails you could go get a massage or see a chiropractor. If that doesn't work then go to your primary care doctor and do physical therapy to put things back where they need to be in there.
