If you noticed that a FB friend had dropped their last name from their screen name...

would you think that their marriage was on the rocks?
I'm itching to ask her what 's up with dropping the last name, but i don't want an awkward situation.
She's now just using her 1st and middle names

  • I wouldn't think that. I have a few FB friends who only use their first and middle name (DH's niece included) and they do it because they don't want to be found by someone or feel pressure to accept an FB friendship of someone they just met.

  • If I knew her well enough I would already know but if she is just a friend on FB but not well known I would wait until she shared about whats going on in her life.

  • I would not ask. That's being way to nosy, IMO.

  • I have alot of friends that randomly put names on with their SN's. I also have some divorced friends that still use their married last names. It's weird to me, but hey, whatever floats their boat. She may have just decided she wanted something different. I would try not to let it bother me too much. If she was showing other signs of her marriage being on the rocks, I might ask, but if it's just the name, I wouldn't think to much of it.

  • I wouldn't ask. It seems obvious what the deal is. I would just wait for her to confirm on her own.

On the other hand, don't put anything out there on FB if you're not welcoming to questions about what you say.

  • I wouldn't ask. While I will fully admit I love me some gossip I would never meddle in someone's business enough to ask directly. Ask someone else or stalk her page for deets. LOL.

  • maybe she was tired of people looking her up? I would just say did you change your name due to the new privacy policy on facebook, I was wondering if I should, see what she has to say!
