What percentage of your family's clothes are second hand/hand me downs?

All of my son's shorts are from thrift stores. All of my jeans are. I have several sweatshirts that are 2nd hand, and all but 1 of my son's sweatshirts are from thrift stores. The prices of new stuff makes me cringe. When i need something,I first look at the thrift stores.
Yesterday i found 2 like-new pairs of shorts for my son for 99 cents apiece

  • Toddler = 80% hand me downs and consignment. The new stuff is mostly b-day, Christmas gifts from family. We purchase shoes and sox and undies mostly.

Teen= 0% "OMG are you kidding Mom?" lol. Although she saves her allowance to buy anything above her back to school wardrobe. She also gets b-day and Christmas clothes.

Me and DH= 50% I used to have a job that gave me access to clothes for free or very little $. Anything else we buy discounted retail.

  • About 10% of my oldest DD's clothes are bought via consignment store or given. About 50-60% of my youngest DD's clothes came from her big sisters.

  • Maybe 5%. My mom and I wear the same size in tops, so when she tires of something it still usually looks new and I snatch it up.
