colic baby

my baby has had colic from the day she was born and she seemed to be getting a little better at the end of two and a half months and when she started her third month she started to get worse again! Is it time to start her on rice cereal in her bottle or supplement with a little baby food? has any one had an improvement with doing this?

  • baby food won't fix colic. it will help reflux. colic gets better with time.

  • there is no sure thing for colic.. we switched bottles and it stopped my sons reflux which helped stop the constant crying, he turned into a completely different baby actually.. has your lo been checked out by a dr to make sure there isn't something more going on health wise? I wish you well with this colic is soooo hard... if you ever need to vent send me a message

  • Rice in the milk is for reflux. It should only be done under a doctor's orders. If you suspect reflux, have her checked. She may already have damage and she may need medication to help it heal.

  • Colic isn't a diagnosis, it's a symptom. Usually of tummy trouble. Often times reflux or an intolerance to what she is eating.
Food will probably make matter worse!
I would talk to your pediatrician about possible reflux or possibly needing a new kind of formula or if your baby is breastfed, you might need to cut certain foods out of your diet.
Cereal should never be put in your childs bottle unless it's for reflux and that should be directed by your doctor.
And your baby is too young for baby food. The minimum age is 4 months... but with tummy troubles I would wait until the recomended 6 months before giving any foods.

  • i'm sorry but it sounds like she's a colic baby. have you heard of the 4 S's? it's the Swaddle, Side, Sway, works like wonders. i know she might be too old for swaddling but try it anyways or force it on her. as harsh as that may sound, but without the swaddling, the side, sway and the sshh won't work. first you swaddle really comfortably firm, if that doesn't work--put her on her side on your lap, if those two combined doesn't work--move your legs from left to right (swaying), if those 3 doesn't work--make the sshh sound right on her ear, and it can't be a light sshh it should be louder than her cry...all 4 combined should work. it's a way to make her feel like she's in the womb again because that's what happens when babies are in the womb. they're cradled tightly, usually most babies are often on their sides, when the mom walks that's a way of swaying, and the sound of the mother's heartbeat is the sound of a sshh.
